The American Woods Racing Championship Series returns to Kittanning next weekend at Community Park.
The race is expected to bring hundreds of families of bike and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) racers of all ages to the middle Armstrong County, said series co-owner Steve Stiller.
“We’re really family-organized. We have over 200 kids racing and over 400 adults,” Stiller said. “We’re the second-largest series on the East coast.
“We normally bring (a total of) 1,500-2,000 people through the gates.”
Stiller and wife, Amy, purchased the declining racing circuit in 2009 – which is thought to have been formed in 1998 - and the family have held annual races in ten different locations within two hours of Pittsburgh ever since.
Steve, who raced both bike and ATV since 1982, is classified as an “expert A” racer at racing championship series events.
Stiller Motorsports Parts Manager Mike Cozma said twenty different companies have sponsored the series with gift cards and prizes.
“All quads race on Saturday, September 22, and all bikes race on Sunday, September 23,” Cozma said.
A $15 gate fee per person is charged, but is good for both days of racing. Children ages 5 and under are free.
Kittanning Borough Council approved the use of Kittanning Community Park for the third year in a row. Stiller said the park is mainly used for parking.
