9/14/1968 – It was Friday the 13th last night that proved unlucky for Kittanning Wildcats as they dropped their home football opener to WPIAL Class A champion Burrell here 37 to 12. However, Ford City got back on the winning track as they downed Swissvale 27-0 on the FCHS field.

9/14/1967 – West Kittanning and Applewold boroughs are urged to seek grants for sewage treatment facilities in a proposed joint project instead of separate applications for separate plants.

9/14/1967 – Mrs. George Starr of 824 7th Avenue, Ford City, graduated from Citizens General Hospital School of Nursing in New Kensington. The former Betty Ann Szalankiewicz is a 1964 graduate of Ford City High School.

9/14/1963 - A new woman’s program entitled “Ladies’ Day Out” is in the final planning stage as an activity for Armstrong Co. The program, being planned and directed by the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Y will feature an entire morning of activities including “slymnastics”, recreational and instructional swimming, sewing, knitting, painting, and bridge playing.

9/14/1963 - Armstrong Co. Medical Society today issued a last minute appeal to all residents of the county to show up at countywide immunization centers tomorrow to take type III Sabin oral polio vaccine.

9/14/1953 - Gilpin Twp. School directors will meet in regular session tonight. Further discussion of the Georgetown School problem is expected.

9/14/1953 - Armstrong Co. ones who a few short days ago were broiling in record summer heat, have dug out topcoats to carry them thru a cold wave which has sent the mercury to all time lows for the period.

9/14/1953 - Ford City- An impressive ceremony took place on the Ford City HS athletic field when nearly 5000 people from the Catholic parishes of Armstrong Co. made a public demonstration of their faith.

9/14/1948 - Kittanning Town Councilmen accepted State Highway Department plans for paving Oak Ave. between Route 66 and Union Ave.

9/14/1948 - A major step was completed towards the recreation development of the Crooked Creek Reservoir area. Approval was voiced by 125 individual ones and representatives from various organizations in the district at a public hearing in the Armstrong Co. courthouse.

9/14/1948 - The Rt. Rev. Austin Pardue, Bishop of Pittsburgh, will formally institute the Rev. Harwood C. Bowman Jr. as rector of St. Paul’s Church here.

9/14/1943 - Election board members throughout Armstrong Co. voting precincts found little to keep them occupied throughout the morning today. Voters stayed away from the polls in droves.

9/14/1943 - Applewold Borough today became the 3rd area in Armstrong Co. to meet its quota in the Salvation Army appeal for $7,534.37 in maintenance funds.

9/14/1938 - American Lock and Dam #9, the most recent link in the chain of Allegheny River dams, will hold a record in the height of the water lift at the lock- 22 feet- highest one of any of the slackwater dams on the river in the Pittsburgh navigation area. Final concrete was to be poured Wednesday at the abutment on the east side of the dam.

9/14/1938 - James B. Hazlett, a graduate of Blairsville HS and IUP, was elected to fill a vacancy in Kittanning HS teaching staff.

9/14/1933 - Car owners were paying a half cent more per gallon of gasoline after a boost of 18c was placed in effect yesterday.

9/14/1933 - Grier Graff, conducting a general insurance business, has opened an office in the Safe Deposit Building, S McKean St. His office is located on the first floor.

9/14/1928 - Leechburg- Mrs. Cynthia Riggle, 95, one of the best known residents of this section of the county, died Thursday morning at the home of her son in law, W.L. Robinson, at the old Riggle homestead in Gilpin Township.

9/14/1928 - Norman Edwards, 47, of Freeport, an employee of the Freeport Telephone Company, drowned Thursday in about 4 feet of water in Buffalo Creek, between Boggsville and West Winfield.
