Church to Hold Sale to Benefit the Needy

Emmanuel Heilman Lutheran Church is planning a multi-family yard and bake sale this Saturday.

Sue Boarts, vice-president of church council, said the sale will be held inside the basement of the facility at 854 Garretts Run Road.

“The bake sale is going to benefit the family of Dave and Lori Pickering. Lori and her daughter both have cancer. We just want to help them out,” Boarts said.

This is not the first time the church has reached out to someone in their membership who was struggling.

“We had a big spaghetti dinner for them last fall to help them out,” Boarts said. “We felt we would do something again because Lori can’t work. Her daughter can’t work either and lives by herself. We want to help them out as much as we can.”

The money generated from table space rental to families for the yard sale will go to the church’s “Needy Fund.”

“The Needy Fund goes to local people, anyone who needs help. In our congregation, sometimes we have helped someone who was flooded out, someone who can’t pay their utilities from the congregation, and then we will also help people that we know, but may not necessarily be members of the church.”

The public is welcome to come and browse many tables of merchandise. The sale hours are 9AM until 2PM.
