9/11/2001 - Today, America was attacked on our soil. The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

9/11/1967 – Senator Joseph Clark (D-Pa) who was divorced recently by his wife after 32 years, plans to marry a Washington publicist who was originally from Ford City. Clark, Pennsylvania’s senior senator, was divorced on August 25 by his second wife, Mrs. Noel Hall Clark, on charges of “indignities”. Clark was first married in 1926 to Elizabeth Story Kenks. They were divorced in 1934. Clark will now marry Mrs. Irene Richey, 46, a divorcee. She is a Ford City High School graduate of 1938 and daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lon Cole, formerly of Ford City. Mrs. Cole is deceased and Mr. Cole lives in Ambridge.

9/11/1967 – A total of 12,523 students are enrolled in the elementary and secondary schools of the Armstrong School District, plus 231 students are attending classes at Lenape Technical-Vocational High School this semester.

9/11/1967 – Rural Valley Lumber Company has a sale on Armstrong Ceiling Tile – only 9 cents each. The Kentile vinyl 9”x9” asbestos tile are only 8 cents each.

9/11/1962 – Kittanning area firemen had the blessings of town Council for their plans to bring the 1965 convention of Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association here.

9/11/1962 – Mrs. Lang Yates of Pine Hill entertained her five sisters at the Hi-Lander Restaurant for the 23 annual Woodall Sisters get-together.

9/11/1957 – When Reverend Walter Kennedy, pastor of Templeton and Goheenville Presbyterian churches, gave the benediction at the concolusion of a funeral service for Howard S. Humphries, 90-year-old resident of Ford City, it was the 1,500th time he had officiated at a funeral service in the 48 years of his ministry.

9/11/1957 – A Child Guidance Center opened here recently for coping with the problem of exceptional children in Armstrong County.

9/11/1957 – Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Croyle of McGrann will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at a family dinner to be served in their honor at the Hollo-Dairy Bar.

9/11/1952 – National headquarters of the American Red Cross has been asked to survey the damage of the Garretts Run fire, with a view of declaring the village a disaster area.

9/11/1947 – Borough police are looking for an unknown person who threw a beer bottle through a plate glass window of the Dunlop Tire and Rubber company store, South Jefferson Street, Kittanning.

9/11/1942 – First Church of God, Woodward Avenue, will officially burn their mortgage this Sunday in a special ceremony planned by the congregation.

9/11/1942 – An “irod-clad” ban on initiation parties was issued by Apollo High School officials after a number of Freshmen boys and girls had been paddled so harshly that they had to undergo treatment.

9/11/1937 – A $6,000 bond issue has been approved for Manorville. Now the borough is ready to proceed with improvement of streets before putting the bonds up for sale.

9/11/1937 – Over 3,000 football fans watched the Wildcats of Kittanning trounce a light but stubborn crew from Apollo at Gilpin Field. The score was 20-0.
