9/5/1968 – A new building to house the Parks Township Fire Department and township-equipment and offices will be completed later than expected. The all-steel 5,000 square-foot structure was expected to be done by Oct 1, but a delay in steel siding shipment and roof has postponed the date. When completed, it will house a fire truck and trailer, hi-lift, bulldozer, and a road grader.
9/5/1968 – Keys were formally presented to the Armstrong School District to the addition of the East Brady High School. The one story brick addition involves a new gymnasium and team room, a new library, and new heating and ventilating system throughout the whole building. The $950,489 price tag was financed by the State Public School Building Authority who will rent the facility to the school district.
9/5/1968 – A VW minibus entered by students of Cal Tech of Pasadena, CA was converted to all electric and became the first all electric vehicle to travel the nation from west to east. Its counterpart, an all electric converted Corvair entered b students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology finished the course, but had to be towed 130 miles to finish line.
9/5/1963 - Miss Cathy Flanigan, East Brady girl who was queen of the 1963 Western PA Laurel Festival, will be a contestant for the title of Miss Football of 1963 in the National Football Festival to be held 12-21 Sept. in Berkeley, CA.
9/5/1958 - The dedication service for the Slagle Memorial Building of St. Luke’s Reformed Church will be held Sunday morning. Dr. George T. Fitz, pastor of St. John Church of Johnstown, will preach the dedication sermon.

9/5/1933 - A serious accident marred the Labor Day double holiday. Despite heavy rains over the area, thousands of motorists jammed the highways during the greater part of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. 2 women, Mrs. Jennie Miller, Ford Cliff; and Mrs. Murdie Folk, New Bethlehem RD 2; are in Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital recovering from injuries received early Sunday morning on Route 422 5 miles from Butler.
9/5/1933 - The American Legion Drum Corps and Bugle Corps of Armstrong Post of the American Legion carried off $250 worth of prizes in a drum and bugle competition which closed a 3 day homecoming celebration at Emporium Monday.
