Kittanning Borough Council last night voted to ask First Ward Councilman David Croyle to resign.

Croyle was charged with several felony counts last month. A preliminary hearing was rescheduled from last month to September 18.

In asking for the motion, Council President Kim Chiesa said that she felt Croyle could not adequately do his job as councilman while he is going through the legal proceedings.

“As in the case of anyone facing criminal charges, Councilman Croyle is entitled of the presumption of innocent until proven guilty,” Chiesa said.

Croyle as not indicated whether or not he intends to resign or when. He was not present at last night’s meeting.

Requests for response to the vote was referred to Croyle’s attorney, Duke George in New Kensington.

Council also reorganized last night, appointing Andy Peters to be the new vice-president of Council. Chris Schiano was appointed as the President Pro Tempore.
