8/20/1968 - New water and sewage rates were set last night by Ford City Borough Council. The new rates raise the water costs and lower the sewage rental for a reduction to the householder of 50-cents-a-month on a minimum bill. Rates become effective Sept. 1.

8/20/1968 - Apollo Borough Council last night passed a resolution for relocation of traffic lights in downtown to facilitate traffic at the newly constructed Apollo Plaza. The Authority is scheduled to meet tonight to determine how many meters will be needed for the new plaza parking lot.

8/20/1968 - The number of Pennsylvanians over age 21 who have not made themselves eligible to vote is increasing and this fact is alarming to the state chairmen of the respective major parties.

8/20/1968 - NASA announced that three Apollo astronauts are scheduled for a nonstop orbit around the moon this December. The Space Center in Houston said that the goal of a U.S. astronaut on the moon was “clearly possible” by next year.

8/20/1948 - 6 teams of heavyweight horses struggled and strained in the horse pulling contest at the Dayton Fair. First honors were awarded to a team belonging to Tucker Galbreath of Goheenville.

8/20/1943 - County has $3.5 million bond quota. 3rd war loan campaign, opening 9 Sept., seeks $15 billion.

8/20/1943 - Stories about sons and brothers of American ones captured by Axis powers in foreign lands are trickling in regularly, but a new twist was injected when a brother of Ford City residents was captured by American ones and brought to this country for internment. The prisoner, Pvt. Ross Fate, fought with the Italian Army in North Africa. He is a brother of Mrs. Mary Milito of 528 4th Ave., and Mrs. Philip Falsetti 535 4th Ave.

8/20/1928 - With a record of having engaged in the active practices of the medical profession for 54 years, all of which were spent in the same location, Dr. James A. Kelly of Whitesburg died Sunday morning at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

8/20/1928 - County commissioners have decided to use stone in rebuilding the steps in front of the courthouse.
