8/17/1968 – An architect’s conception of Kittanning Waterfront was released to the public. It depicted what the project would look like after development proposed by the Waterfront Development Corporation in Kittanning. Total cost of the project has been estimated at $294,000.
8/17/1963 - Merle H. Loch, son of Rev. and Mrs. Howard F. Loch of 333 N McKean St., has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the American Army Reserve. He is with the 70th Infantry Division in Detroit, Michigan.
8/17/1953 - The bright hope that their son still was alive dimmed today for Rev. and Mrs. Harlon A. Miller of Apollo Star Route with a Defense Dept. announcement that the Communist ones have claimed Pfc. Wallace A. Miller died in prison camp.

8/17/1943 - Ford City- Hubert Rupert who has been assistant basketball coach at Ford City HS for the past 10 years, was elected head coach at a special school board meeting. He succeeds Cornelius P. (Neenie) Campbell, who resigned to become head coach in McKeesport.
8/17/1943 - The annual fair being held this week in Dayton under auspices of the Dayton Agricultural and Mechanical Association will feature horse pulling contests on Wednesday and Thursday night.
