7/23/1968 - The search continued their efforts to recover the body of a Pittsburgh youth who drowned in Wattersonville yesterday. William Joseph Hubenthall, 15, went down in about 30 feet of water despite efforts by his father to rescue him. The victim was floating on an inflated inner tube preparing to be towed to shore with a water ski line attached to a motor boat when the force of the motor capsized the inner tube. The tragedy occurred as a violent thunderstorm sturck the area, chasing vacationers out of the water.
7/23/1968 - A rekindled brush and forest fire yesterday burned an additional 140 acres of growth on “River Hill” in the Kelly Station-Logansport vacinity, above the Logansport Dam on the Allegheny River. The same section had been scoured of about 60 acres of brush and trees earlier as five fire companies battled the blaze. Bethel Township firemen spent 11 hours fighting the blaze with the assistance of Ford City, Ford Cliff, Manor, and Gilpin townships. Bull dozers were brought in to open sections for bringing in firefighting equipment and plow out fire-break lines. The heat was so intense the equipment had to be staged away from the immediate blaze. The fire was so intense that it frequently jumped the fire breaks.

7/23/1958 - Dr. John Gemperlein, formerly of Pittsburgh, recently accepted the position of pathologist at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital succeeding Dr. Theodore Baker Jr, who resigned recently.

7/23/1953 - 2 aged Bridgeburg residents, man and wife, were under oxygen treatment at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital today, the man after suffering a stroke and his wife from the shock of finding him unconscious. The victims were Mr. and Mrs. John M. Steffy, 75.
7/23/1948 - A “baby tornado” swept thru a section of South Buffalo Twp near McVille. Wind poured into the Richard Hill home and tore a section of the roof. Blankets from a bed were rolled into a ball and placed neatly in the corner of a bedroom.

7/23/1943 - A Kittanning native one, Neil T Bish, 23, has been killed in the airplane crash in NY State according to word received today from Mitchell Field, NY, and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. SC Bish of Dayton.

Miss Laura A Guthrie, who has served as president for a number of years, was reelected.
