The West Shamokin Wolves varsity football team clinched a playoff berth for their second straight season after downing Meyersdale by the final score of 32-18.
West Shamokin took the lead in the first quarter thanks to an 11 yard touchdown run from Brendan Mondi followed by a 2-point conversion scored by Tyler Sweeney after Tyler Lightcap fumbled the ball, giving the Wolves an 8-0 lead.
The Wolves never looked back after taking the early lead. Meyersdale was able to score on the following possession, but West Shamokin quickly responded.
By halftime, West Shamokin added two more touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions. The first of the two came from a touchdown pass from Lightcap to Jacob Szul which was followed by a Dan Goldstrohm run for the 2-point conversion. The second touchdown was scored by a short run from Szul at the goal line followed by a caught pass by Szul for the 2-point conversion.
The Wolves would take the 24-6 lead into the locker room at half-time. In the third, West Shamokin added their final score when Lightcap found Szul in the end zone on a 25 yard touchdown pass.
The Wolves will now set their eyes on their first round match-up against the top seeded Ligonier Valley Rams, a team that the Wolves lost to earlier in the season 42-0.
Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM at Ligonier Valley.
