
Following repairs made by local utilities, workers finished patching and sealing of a cut made to Union Avenue in Kittanning. Workers are attempting to finalize paving and repair jobs as the asphalt season comes to a close.
Asphalt paving projects throughout the region are rapidly coming to a close.
Typically, the end of October is considered the end of the paving season in our area. Asphalt companies close for the season once daytime temperatures fall into the low 50’s because the pavement must be laid down at a specific temperature for maximum results.
From November until next Spring, road workers generally use cold patch for emergency repairs.
Asphalt became popular in the 1960s as a less expensive alternative to cement for highways.

Workers renovating the former Pollock Wholesale building lay down asphalt for the parking lot last week. It is reported that the county commissioners will move Area Agency on Aging and several other agencies to the newly renovated space.

After residents came to a council meeting and complained about the alley behind Hawthorne Avenue in Kittanning, borough workers laid down a coating of pavement. While the repair is only a temporary fix. Full replacement is difficult since part of the alley is concrete.
