OBIT: Evelyn L. Pore (North Buffalo Township)

Evelyn L. (Altman) Pore, 97, formerly of North Buffalo Township, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born July 23, 1920, in Mansfield, OH, she was a daughter of the late Robert J. and Estella H. (Stitt) Altman, and was a 75-year resident of North Buffalo Township.

She worked as a head cook for Armstrong School District, retiring after 20 years of service. After retirement, she was a caregiver for people in their homes. She was a very loved resident of Concordia, where she was involved with several volunteer activities.

Mrs. Pore was a member of Heilman Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she cooked for all the church dinners. She belonged to the Armstrong Horsemen’s Association, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2001, she was named volunteer of the year for the Pennsylvania School Retirees Association. She was a marshall at the Armstrong County Fair, where she led in horses. Mrs. Pore was a cook for Slippery Rock Church Camp in the summers, and was also a cook for Camp Cadet.

She enjoyed horseback riding, listening to country music, and being with her grandchildren. She especially loved cooking, especially for her weekly Sunday family dinners. Mrs. Pore was well known for her baking, especially her pies.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley E. Bowser (Turney), of Mansfield, OH, and Sandra Gray (William) of Kittanning; a stepdaughter, Garnet Martinez (Michael); her grandchildren, Kerri Gray (Bob), Kelli Burdett (Rich), William Gray (Cindy), Erik Gray (Kristen), Tim Bowser, and Karla Ohler (Roy); her great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Dustin, Kylie, Dylan, Colton, Jessica, Danny, Kati, Alyssa, Andrew, Mariah, Julia, Ethan, Marc, and Lauren; and a great-great-grandchild, Marlee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Pore, in 1964, and a grandson, Daniel Bowser, in 1981.

Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Funeral service will be held at 11AM, Monday, at Heilman Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jack Delk, officiating. Additional visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services.
