The Armstrong River Hawks (3-3) varsity football team are coming off of their first section win of the season - a 27-14 win over the Plum Mustangs.
Armstrong will look to go ahead of the .500 mark this Friday as they travel to the 2-4 Greater Latrobe Wildcats home turf.
Heading into this match-up, the River Hawks are averaging 271 yards passing (80.7 passing, 190.3 rushing). In their last two games, Armstrong’s offense has been firing on all cylinders - averaging 317 yards offensively with 200+ yards rushing in their last two games.
The Wildcats on the other hand are coming off of a big 48-0 shutout against McKeesport, but they have improved this season - already gaining a win from last years 1-8 record thanks to a position change by Jason Armstrong, moving from wide-out last year to QB this year.
Last year Greater Latrobe’s Jason Armstrong lead the WPIAL 5A in receiving with 45 receptions for 702 receiving yards - so he will bring great athleticism to the Wildcats spread offense.
The one aspect of the River Hawks offense has been the big play, but last week they were finally able to hit that home-run play against Plum with Dawson Porter’s 80 yard touchdown run. This week Armstrong will not necessarily be looking for that big play, but the fact that they can get that big play will be a factor for the Wildcats defense.
Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM at Greater Latrobe, but you can join the WTYM broadcast starting at 6:30 for a Coach’s Corner segment and pre-game. To listen, tune in to 1380 AM, WTYMradio.com, or the free WTYM Mobile App available on your smart phone or tablet.
