The Armstrong 18U baseball team (part of the Pittsburgh Prospects Baseball League) picked up their second win of the season and their second win in a row Tuesday night over the Chartiers Valley Thunder.
Chartiers Valley jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but that was quickly answered by Armstrong in the bottom of the inning when Dawson Porter scored on a ground out to second base.
Armstrong was able to get the bats going in the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored 6 runs in the inning, including a 2 RBI double from Josh Hepler.
Later in the game though, Chartiers Valley made a run slowly chipping away at Armstrong’s lead. The Thunder scored 7 runs in the final two innings to draw to within 1 run of Armstrong, but Armstrong was able to hold on for the 11-10 win.
From the plate, three Armstrong players collected 2 RBI’s - those players were Dakota Sunday, Bryan Layton, and Josh Hepler.
From the mound, Armstrong’s starter Bryan Layton allowed just 3 runs in 5 innings pitched striking out three batters.
Armstrong will be at Beaver Valley on Wednesday, June 14 with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM.
