With baseball season approaching fast, the Kittanning Little League is preparing to play in a new district - District 26, which will make travel a little easier for families involved.
Kittanning Little League President Mike Mills said the move was “primarily geographical”, as the Kittanning Little League will now take on teams from Freeport, Deer Lakes, Apollo, Highlands, KESS (Kittanning Township, Elderton, Shelocta, and South Bend Little League), Leechburg, Lower Burrell, Lower Valley.
Mills is looking forward to the new District and thinks that it will be an exciting step forward for the district.
“It offers us a lot more teams to play, I think the quality of play overall will be better for our kids, it’s less travel for our families. We enjoy the traditions of Little League, that it’s a community organization and community based. We’re the only organization that still plays ‘Little League’. We’re excited about it, we think it’s a great opportunity, and we think it’s a step forward for our district,” Mills said.
Player try-outs/ evaluation for the Kittanning Little League is set for March 25, but players must register before that date at KLLB.org.
Opening day for the Kittanning Little League will be April 22 at Montebell Field - this will include softball, t-ball, and baseball. Another opening day event will happen on April 29 at Judd Field for softball and t-ball.
