Drug Free Communities Coalition Meets Thursday

Community residents and officials part of the Armstrong County Drug Free Communities Coalition are reminded that the monthly meeting will begin at 10AM this Thursday – March 9 – at the Belmont Complex in West Kittanning Borough.

After the February meeting, Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission officials announced that due to participation, meetings are a week earlier each month – moving from the third Thursday to the second Thursday.

As well as hearing from Apollo RAID chapter founder Jeff Held, officials are asked to prepare for a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of the organization by way of Pitt School of Pharmacy.

A method used by corporations, marketing organizations and community groups, SWOT (as the acronym implies) is a method defined as a study undertaken by an organization to identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities and threats.

Among the many goals outlined, drug and alcohol commission officials hope to have the coalition members assist in reducing the availability of prescription drugs – such as through promotion of local drug take-back boxes currently available in Kittanning, East Franklin Township and Freeport -, implementing prevention programs and environmental strategies among youth and overall increasing youth involvement.

As has been the past two months, a continental breakfast will also be provided in the complex meeting room.

The meeting is expected to conclude by noon and is open to all interested local residents
