Worthington Light-Up Festivities Held this Saturday

It doesn’t feel like Christmas yet, but this weekend marks three weeks until Santa Claus visits Armstrong County children.

Before he does, St. Nick will make an appearance this weekend at Worthington Borough’s Light-Up festivities.

Coordinated through the Petal Pushers Garden Club, the event begins at 5:30PM Saturday – December 3 – when Santa Claus lights the Christmas tree at the Worthington Civic Center (the former Worthington-West Franklin High School along East Main Street/Old Route 422).

Activities planned include horse rides, Shriner’s Clowns, pictures with Santa, stories with Mrs. Claus, crafts, basket raffles, food, hot chocolate and cookies

The first light-up event – dubbed “Sparkle” – was held in 2011 after the brainstorming on Garden Club member Allison Gaiser.

Garden Club President Tracy Custer said Worthington Lions used to decorate the tree down at the post office, but something was wrong with outside electric.

The event has drawn upwards of 300 children and families to celebrate the holiday season.
