OBIT: Ronald S. Townsend, Sr. (Spring Church)

Ronald S. Townsend, Sr., 72, of Spring Church, PA, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born February 23, 1944 in Mercer, PA to Robert S. and Janet R. (Smith) Townsend.

Ron worked as a welder at Allegheny Ludlum, retiring in 1998. He also loved being a Deputy Constable for South Bend and was a co-owner of G.P.S. Security, Inc.

Ron took great pride in being part of the Masons; he was a life member of the Apollo Masonic Lodge #437 and of the Scottish Rite Masons at the Valley of Coudersport, and was a member of the Royal Arch Chapter since 1969. He was a member of the St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ of Shelocta. Ron served on the Dayton Fair Board and was Secretary and Treasurer of UCT.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his most memorable moments were spending time at camp and at the beach with his family and traveling with his wife, Karen.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 23 years, Karen Kennedy Townsend; son, Ronald S. Townsend, Jr. and companion, Michelle D. Zanetti of Ford City; daughter, Cheryl Graff and husband, David of Plumcreek Twp.; two step-sons: J. Scott Bussard and wife, Rhonda of Mt. Joy, PA, and Brian Bussard and wife, Sherri of Atwood; two step-daughters: Lisa Bussard Kocent and husband, Ron of Pittsburgh, and Sheila Bussard Wadding and husband, Jeff of Dayton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Townsend and wife, Sara Inez of South Bend; and sister, Barbara Goldstrom of New Kensington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Leland “Bobby Lee” Townsend.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM tonight - Tuesday, October 18, 2016 - and 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Wednesday, October 19, 2016 - at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main Street, Elderton, PA. A Masonic service will held on Tuesday at 7 PM.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the funeral home with the Rev. Sheila Wadding officiating.

Interment will follow in South Bend Cemetery, South Bend, PA.
