A preliminary hearing for a Ford City man charged with assaulting a State Police trooper was continued yesterday.
Colton Kennedy, 25, will wait until next week to be heard by Magisterial District Judge Michael Gerheimn regarding felony and misdemeanor assault charges, as well as a summary harassment charge, after the October 5 incident in Burrell Township.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, early that morning, four Pennsylvania State Police troopers responded along Garretts Run Road for a mental health commitment from Kennedy, but Kennedy became “very combative” and began to fight troopers. He spat in the face of one trooper and attempted to kick other police enforcement and paramedics.
A tazer was used to try to get Kennedy to comply with commands.
Kennedy is charged with two counts of felony assault – one of which against the police -, misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor disorderly conduct and summary harassment.
After a mental health evaluation, Kennedy was arrested and transported to the Armstrong County Jail in Rayburn Township – where he is still held on $50,000 monetary bail.
