Annual Antiquing Fair Moves to August

The events in Kittanning Riverfront Park continue tomorrow during the 17th annual “Antiquing along the Allegheny” antique and craft fair.

Chairperson and Vice-President Carolyn Schrecengost has been part of the annual event since the beginning, and said the antique fair was moved from mid-September to August to try and avoid September’s rain - which has hampered the event in the past.

“Our members are lovers of antique, so in 1999 we decided that the beautiful Riverfront Park along the Allegheny River would be the perfect setting for vendors to bring their goods,” Schrecengost said. “The first few years we combined with the Car Show that was held on Market Street. This has been a favorite event since then.

We feel it is important to get the next generation interested in preserving the past.”

Proceeds from each fair is donated back into the community.

The Kit-Han-Ne Chapter has donated more than $10,000 to various local preservation projects - such as at the McCain House Museum, Mildred Lankerd-Thomas Genealogical Library and Armstrong County Courthouse.

This year, officials hope to provide enough funds to
bring a period-era kitchen back to the Armstrong County Historical Museum.

Schrecengost recalled that the fair started to make use of the new Riverfront Park facilities that seemed under-utilized at the time.

A new addition to the antique and craft fair includes an antique/classic car show, sponsored by the Shannock Valley Car Club, from 10AM-2PM along South Water Street.

Appraiser Tim Sweet will be available from 10-11:30AM at a cost of $5 per item.

With a motto of “It’s fun to search and a joy to find,” the Kit-Han-Ne Questers #408 – a non-profit group – formed in 1969 and is part of the Questers International Organization that currently has more than 900 chapters and more than 15,000 members in the United States and Canada.

The purpose and goals of the non-profit group are to research and study antiques, take pride in our members’ personal collections and share their knowledge with fellow Questers and friends.
