Managers, shift leaders, and crew all came out to honor a former McDonalds manager who lost his life to cancer last month.

Bobbi Wolbert, Area Supervisor for M&J Management (franchise holder of Franklin Village McDonalds), explained the reason for the fund-raiser.

“We had a GM (general manager), Meade Shaffer, who fought the fight with cancer and lost. We did a benefit this evening to help his family out with all the costs.”

Between 4-7PM last night, a portion of the sales went to the Shaffer family.

“We also did a Chinese auction, face painting… a lot of events. For three hours, the restaurant was packed. A lot of family of Meade’s and friends were here supporting the family.”

Shaffer, 49, from Adrian, was not only known locally, but also around the region.

“He worked at different locations, but he started out here in Kittanning.”

Of the 21 restaurants owned by M&J Management, 10 of the general managers were on hand to offer their assistance.

This is not the first time the local McDonalds has reached out for families of their employees.

“We had Stephanie Edwards, (a manager in Kittanning) who had a stroke, so we did a benefit for her as well a few years ago.”

Wobert did not have final results of the fund-raiser, but estimated it would be several thousand dollars.
