A local business owner is now the newest supervisor in South Buffalo Township.
Paul Bergad, owner of Bergad Specialty Foam and Composites with plants in both Ford City and Rayburn Township, was sworn in at Monday night’s township meeting.
Bergad was interviewed on the WTYM morning show “David & Friends” yesterday and said he was contemplating serving in public office.
“I did want to run for Supervisor when the next opening was available. But recently we have one of our Supervisors resigned. So I sent in a letter showing my interest to be appointed as one of the supervisors in the interim until the election and I was appointed (Monday, July 18, 2016).”
Bergad admitted that his business consumes a great deal of his time, but said that he would be available to assist governing the township.
“Owning your own company is a 24 hour job. It’s one thing you eat, drink, and sleep every night. But the township as well, there are things that important to you in life. Your business is important, your family is important, but that township where you live is just as equally important. When you look around and see things that you would like to see changed. Instead of complaining, I decided to just undertake it, and try to be on the supervisors to help make that change. It’s important not only for me but for everybody. If you feel strong enough about it, you will find the time. This is a very important position. And I am willing to put in the extra effort and all the time I can to do the best job I can.”
Bergad felt there is a need to aggressively market the Northpointe Industrial Park.
“If you look at the township - I have been a resident there since 1976 - In South Buffalo, we have a fantastic industrial park - Northpointe. Everybody drives by it on Route 28. And it just doesn’t seem to be growing at the rate it should be. I was hoping that we, the supervisors, can help out and see what we can do to make that industrial park grow at the rate that it should be. It’s a fantastic place. And I think having everyone on board - the county, the township - all pushing for one common goal - to make that industrial park go. I think we can all help and make it a lot better than what it is now as well as getting a lot more businesses in there. Not only will it benefit the township, but rather the county as a whole. That’s one of the gems we have in South Buffalo that I would like to see grow.”
Bergad has been a South Buffalo resident since 1976. His company, which opened in 1991, manufactures medical items, government uses, and some consumer products out of polyurethane foam.
He is proud of his efforts, employing all but one employee from the local area.
“I would like to think that what we do is a little bit of help in the growth of the county and the state as well.”
