Dog Wardens Conducting License, Rabies Checks Next Week

Armstrong County Treasurer Amanda Hiles has a special announcement for dog owners: make sure your dogs are vaccinated and licensed.

That’s because Region 1 Dog Warden Matthew Patrick will canvass Armstrong County homes starting on Monday.

Under State law, all dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year.

Owners must pay $6.50 for spayed and neutered dogs, and $8.50 for unaltered dogs.

Adults age 65-and-older and persons with disabilities can purchase a license for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.50 for unaltered dogs.

All dogs and non-feral cats (also three months of age or older) must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.

Violators of either can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation, plus court costs.

Licenses can be purchased through Hiles’ office online (at www.co.armstrong.pa.us/departments/elected-officials/treasurer), in person (450 East Market Street, Suite 100 in Kittanning) or by mail (through the same address above).

Tags are also available at the Apollo Library, Freeport Library, Veronesi Gun Works in New Bethlehem and at Shannock Hardware in Rural Valley for a 50 cent additional fee.

The County’s website also offers hours for those additional agents.

Duplicate licenses are also available at Hiles’ office.

All 2015 Dog Licenses expired on December 31, 2015. She began selling 2016 licenses on December 1, 2015.
