OBIT: Hazel Irene (Edwards) McMillen (Worthington)
Hazel Irene (Edwards) McMillen, 99 of Worthington, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 26, 2016 surrounded by her family at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
She was born in Worthington on January 24, 1917 to Orman Brison “Paddy” Edwards and Bessie Hazel (Claypoole) Edwards.
Hazel graduated from Worthington-West Franklin High School Class of 1935.
She was a lifelong member of Franklin Union Baptist Church in Worthington, where she served the Lord as organist for over 40 years.
She was a gifted seamstress, creating garments and mending clothing for numerous friends and family members for most of her adult life.
Hazel also worked at Henry’s market in Worthington during the 1950’s and early `60’s.
She is survived by two children: Shirley (Russell) Collar of Cowansville and Donald (Gloria) Harkleroad of Adrian, from her first marriage to Donald Glenn Harkleroad.
She is also survived by three step-grandchildren whom she raised as her own from her second marriage to Floyd McMillen in 1963. They are: Ray (Janie) McMillen of South Lyon, Michigan, Franklin (Bernice) McMillen of Worthington and Suzanne (Earl) Milligan of Dayton.
She is also survived by two sisters: Helen Hufhand of Manorville and Mary Louise (Earl) Bundy of Worthington; 11 grandchildren: Leo Duttry, Kevin Duttry, Christine (Terry) Nulph, Kathy Harkleroad, Jeremy Harkleroad, Justin Barber, Lindsey (RJ) Sawyer, Josh (Adrienne) Milligan, Elizabeth McMillen, Daniel McMillen and Nathaniel McMillen; 12 greatgrandchildren: Nicole (Nate) Davies, Bethany (Alex) Bowser, Dylan Duttry, Caleb Harkleroad, Zack Nulph, Emily Nulph, Allison Kennedy, Lyric Barber, Alana McMillen, Asher Milligan, Caiman Milligan and Kylie Ruble; and two great-greatgrandchildren: Micah and Eli Davis.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd McMillen in 1965; brother, Fred Edwards; and her cousin and best friend and travel companion, Jean Elgin.
She enjoyed traveling and fulfilled her dream to travel to the Holy Land in 1988.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Friday, January 29, 2016 - at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington.
Additional viewing will be from 10AM until the time of services at 11AM at Franklin Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating.
Interment will be in Franklin Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
