Roberta Jean “Honey” (Painter) Johnston, 90, formerly of Kittanning RD2, passed peacefully on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, 2015.
She was born July 23, 1925, in Kittanning, to Robert Magarah Painter and Rena (Heft) Painter.
Mrs. Johnston was employed by the Finch Distillery, Montgomery Wards, the Arcade and the Armstrong County School District food service department for 14 years. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and volunteered at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. In 1993, she began quilting with a local group at the Church of God in Kittanning. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.
Her life is celebrated by Donna Howard and her husband, David, of Pittsburgh; their son, Curtiss, wife, Shannon, and daughter, Ismey, of Philadelphia; Alan Johnston of Washington; Nancy Seibel and her husband, Robert, of Butler; their daughter, Emily, formerly of Butler; and Glenn Johnston and his wife, Debbie, and their children, of Brackenridge.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Donald, Gerald, Chester, Glade and Dwayne Painter; three sisters: Hazel Yassem, Jeanette Woodward and Reba Rhodes; and her husband: Arlie G. Johnston, whom she married March 29, 1946.
The family will be welcoming guests from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Monday, December 28, 2015, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning. A service celebrating her life will follow at 10AM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in the funeral home with the Reverend Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment at Law Haven Burial Estates.
