OBIT: Helen J. Schrecengost (Kittanning)
Helen J. Schrecengost, 93, of Kittanning, -formerly of Shelocta - passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Grey’s Colonial Acres.
She was born July 25, 1922 in Plumcreek Township, the daughter of George and Bessie (Hawkins) Thomas.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Armstrong County and dedicated her life to caring for her family.
She was a member of St. Thomas United Church of Christ in Gastown where she served as the church’s organist for many years.
She was the past Noble Guard of the Silver Star Rebekah Lodge #67 of Elderton and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #277 of Kittanning and the Elderton Fireman’s Auxiliary.
Traveling and camping with her husband were some of her favorite pastimes and they frequently camped with the Masonic family camping club, the National Camping Travelers.
Helen will be best remembered for her devotion to her family.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Betty Artman and husband, Lou, of Kittanning; son, Jeff Schrecengost and companion, Cheryl Hankey, of Elderton; daughter-in-law, Linda Schrecengost, of Ford City; six grandchildren: Jasa Galo and husband, Dave, Tyce Schrecengost and wife, Tonia, Tate Artman and wife, Heidi, Kelley Hodak and husband, Mark, Angie Schrecengost, and Justin Schrecengost and fiancée, Terra Yorko; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Marshall Thomas, of Indiana, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 67 years, Russell G. Schrecengost, whom she married May 1, 1941 and who died March 7, 2009; son, Earl R. Schrecengost; and infant son, Wendell Schrecengost.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Friday, October 16, 2015 - at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc. in Elderton.
Additional visitation will be from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Herman Ridley officiating.
Interment will in Elderton Cemetery in Elderton.
