OBIT: Howard G. “Hud” Leavens (Kittanning)

Howard Gerald “Hud” Leavens, 86, of Kittanning, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at ACMH Hospital.

He was born on July 20, 1929 in Kittanning, a son of Warren and Margaret Leona (Taylor) Leavens.

Hud was a graduate of Kittanning High School. He was the first cross country runner in Kittanning to qualify for the State Finals in 1947 where he placed Fourth. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was retired from Eljer after more than 30 years of service.

He enjoyed the “coffee club” at McDonalds, spending time with grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren. He was also a devoted Pirates and Steelers fan.

Hud is survived by his son: Gerald “Jerry” Leavens and wife Kathy; daughter: Kay Leavens and friend David Nelen; 3 grandchildren: Valerie (Joshua) Brevell, Andrew (Leslie) Sibble, and Annie Jean (Adam) Hooten; 10 great-grandchildren: Madison, Olivia, Jace, Ava, Wyatt, Daren, Emilee, Calli, Adalee, and Austen; brother: Charles Taylor; sister: Mildred (Tom) King; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Clara Jean (Fair) Leavens who passed in 1997; and four siblings: Jane Bowser, May Spiker, John Jack Leavens, and Sadie Crawford.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday, October 9, 2015 in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Cowansville. Visitation will continue at 10AM Saturday, October 10, 2015 followed by a funeral service at 11AM with the Reverend Robert Grimm officiating. Interment will take place in the Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
