OBIT: Bernard C. McCullough (Atwood)

Bernard C. McCullough, 81, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2015 at his home in Atwood.

He was the son of J.C. and Lucy (Boyer) McCullough and was born on June 12, 1934 in Atwood. He was a graduate of Shannock Valley High School.

Bernie owned and operated McCullough Auto Body for 32 years and was the owner/operator of McCullough mowing and lawn care for 15 years.

He was an ordained elder at the Presbyterian Church of Atwood and served as constable of Atwood Borough for 40 years. Bernie was also a U.S. Army Veteran.

Bernie enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family. He loved sharing his homemade ice cream and collecting and restoring hit and miss engines. He was an avid porch sitter with his beloved wife Ellie. He shared himself with his family and friends and always say, “Stop by, we’ll talk for an hour - it won’t take long.”

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor (Sheesley) McCullough; four daughters: Glenda (William) Holbein of Atwood, Brenda (Curtis) Lentz of Indiana; Debra (Barry) Sheppard of Creekside and Wanda (Kevin) Meyer-Wadding of Dayton; nine grandchildren: William (Stacy) Holbein of Atwood, Owen (Rebecca) Meyer of Shelocta, Zoleanne (Nicholas) Ruffner of Carlisle, Nathan (Brittany) Meyer of Rural Valley, Sarah (Adam) Lombardo of Greensburg, David Holbein of Atwood, Cody (Ciara) Sheppard of Marion Center, Nick (Holly) Wadding of Dayton and Brady Wadding of Rural Valley; and was blessed with 12 great grandchildren: Larry, Lillian, McKenzie, Christian, Evelyn, Xander, Aiden, Claire, Zeek, Nate, Jacob and Benjamin.

In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by three brothers: Wayne, Ronald and Dwight; two sisters: Nylene and Lucille; and his beloved friend and son-in-law, Larry Owen Meyer.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Thursday, June 25, 2015 - at the Carson/Boyer Funeral Home in Rural Valley.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the funeral home, with the Reverend Joseph Tagliaserre officiating.

Interment will follow at Atwood Cemetery with full military honors by the Armstrong County Honor Guard.
