SPORTS: Armstrong Hockey Teams Lose to Conference Foes
The momentum of a four-game winning streak wasn’t enough to push the Armstrong River Hawks to victory in an Eastern Conference hockey showdown last night.
The River Hawks lost 11-3 to the Greater Latrobe Wildcats at Kirk S. Nevin Arena in Greensburg (Westmoreland County).
The game pitted the two top teams in the Eastern Conference against each other with just five games left in the regular season – three to be played at the Belmont Complex in East Franklin Township.
Greater Latrobe’s Brendan Johns tallied seven points during the game – four goals and three assists – while Ian Greiner also added two goals and two assists.
Armstrong reduced the deficit to 3-2 less than a minute into the second period, but Greater Latrobe scored the next three – including a power play goal.
Armstrong’s Jace Rearic tallied three points in the loss – two power play goals and an assist – while Zach Kutch also registered two assists to make him Armstrong’s assists leader on the season.
The loss dropped Armstrong’s record to 13-4 and gave them only a two-point edge in the divisional standings.
Armstrong next plays Thursday evening at home versus Hampton.
Armstrong’s junior varsity team also lost 8-1 Thursday night to the hands of Shaler.
