Final Man Sentenced in 2013 Kittanning Beating

The fourth local man arrested in connection to the death of a Chicora man in March 2013, Keith Allen Brison was sentenced to 11 1/2 months to two years behind bars yesterday morning.

The last of the four men allegedly involved in the death of a Chicora man outside a Kittanning bar in 2013 was sentenced to jail yesterday morning.

Keith Brison, of Kittanning – who was formally arrested March 20, 2013 in the death of Chicora’s James Sullivan outside of the Wick City Saloon in Kittanning’s Fourth Ward – was sentenced by Armstrong County Judge James Panchik to both confinement in the Armstrong County Jail and consecutive probation.

Brison, 24, pleaded guilty to both second-degree misdemeanor simple assault and second-degree misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person in March following the sentence of 20-year-old Anthony Bove for first-degree misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter.

He will serve between 11 ½ months and two years for the simple assault and a minimum of two years probation for the recklessly endangering another person conviction. Brison was credited with 79 days served in the Rayburn Township jail.

Specifically during the March 2013 St. Patrick’s’ Day incident, Brison was near convicted Otilio Cosme when Sullivan was attacked and went to Cosme’s aid and entered into a physical altercation with another man outside the bar.

The other three men convicted of the March 2013 crime are all incarcerated.

Dennis Rosenberger of Ford City is now in custody for three to six years at SCI Mercer, Cosme – Bove’s step-father - was sentenced to up to three years in the Armstrong County Jail and Bove sentenced to up to five years in jail.

Brison was also ordered by Judge Panchik to serve 50 hours of community service and to pay nearly $1,500 in total court costs, restitution and crimes code fines.

Yet again, our local justice system has failed us by letting more Kittanning SCUM have slaps on the wrist. These families have been a detriment to this community. It’s time the community took a stand.

If these men were sentenced, it’s no longer alleged that they were involved in the death of James.
It doesn’t seem like enough jail time was given for killing someone. It was no accident. It was drunken mob mentality.

These Thugs should have been put away for many Years! Poor job by the justice system in this case!

localtaxpayer: I refuse to condemn the families. Some of the convicted are from decent families. I hope I am not judged by something perhaps one of my close or extended relatives did.
James and his killers were once children. Maybe some were misguided. Also, once a child gets labeled, he or she is doomed. Rosenberger was a good kid when he was younger.
If you do research on mobs, you’ll find that even some “normal” people will act horrendous in a crowd. We can’t always blame the families.

    Just sayin
Do you truly know these individuals? If you do, your statement Is way off base. Regardless of a childhood, these individuals continue to choose to live this reckless life of drinking in the bar and participating in bar fights. Except these three relatives chose to gang beat a man to death. Justice was far from being served.

Wo.man—I knew Rosenberger when he played basketball with my son. He was a wholesome, shy kid.

It is sad and tragic what happened. Do you really think these men set out to kill someone that night? I don’t. I’m sticking with the “mob-mentality” theory, drunk or not. It is horrifying what mobs can do, when each individual wouldn’t do it while alone.

Did you read my comment that not enough jail time was served?

It’s incredible that someone can say the convicted “come from decent families’ when they’re all related!!! Have you been drinking justsayin?

  • By Just sayin, June 18, 2015 @ 12:43 AM

Steve, oh, Steve: Their families did not commit the crime. Are you saying that they are ALL related? “Cosme-Bove’s step-father”— they are not related by blood. Even if they were, I hope I am not judged by things my extended relatives have done. How are they all related? Who cares, anyway, if they are related in some way? Do you personally know these individuals?

There are plenty of people at bars who get sloppy drunk and angry, at times. That doesn’t necessarily mean they come from negative families. I didn’t go the Wick City Saloon to observe how often these guys drank.
By the way, I said ,”SOME of the convicted come from decent families.”
No, I was not drinking. That’s insulting. Just because I don’t think like you, I’m a drinker?
