Transit Authority Brainstorming for 40th Anniversary

by Jonathan Weaver

In less than three months, a Kittanning-based transit authority will celebrate a milestone anniversary.

Town and Country Transit, with its headquarters based on North Grant Avenue, will celebrate its 40th anniversary October 8.

General Manager Patti Lynn Baker told municipal board directors Wednesday afternoon at the transit offices that she has some ideas as to a local event.

Board directors discussed both indoor and outdoor event venues with a mixture of local musical entertainment.

The Kittanning Fireman’s Band was one group mentioned, an organization Manorville Representative Hyatt Hawk performs with regularly.

“It’s 40 years - we need to do something,” Baker said. “People of all ages enjoy (the Fireman’s Band).”

Baker said the event would also prove to increase ridership in the future.

“We need to get our name out to people who don’t know us, even if they don’t use our service,” Baker said. “We’re here to provide a community service. We need to get our name out to people who don’t know what we do.”

Free food options, such as popcorn, hot dogs and sno-cones, were brainstormed.

Free transportation for fixed-route passengers was also discussed, as well as promotional give-a-ways for shared-ride passengers.

No business items were discussed at Wednesday’s meeting since there was not a quorum of municipality directors present.

There will not be a rescheduled meeting. Business will next be discussed at their next regularly scheduled meeting at 4PM August 19.
