More Than Dozen Students Involved in Bus Accident

State Police have confirmed four of the 16 juvenile passengers on the school bus involved in a collision with a Peterbilt truck sustained minor injuries the afternoon of February 18.

At about 3PM that afternoon, the truck – driven by Douglas J. Chesnutt, 41 of Cadogan – crashed into the back of the school bus while it was stopped with its flashing red lights on along Route 422 in Plumcreek Township.

The truck swerved but also descended into an embankment, impacting a utility pole.

Neither Chesnutt nor Bluebird School Bus Driver Joyce A. Abel, 54 of Creekside, was injured in the crash, and neither driver was charged by State Police troopers from the Kittanning barracks.

Students on the bus ranged from 13 to 17 years of age.

A few hours later, about 6:30PM, a Ford F150 - driven by George J. Straka, 34 of Revloc -lost control of his vehicle along Route 422 in Plumcreek Township also and crashed into a 2000 Freightliner Century truck driven by Terry Black of Imler. Straka was injured in the crash.
