SPORTS ZONE: Retzer Ends High School Career on Top

Listen to Mike Waterloo on Sports Zone, Saturdays at 11AM, on WTYM AM 1380 radio.

The final game that you play in your high school career is a bittersweet moment. You want to go out on top from a personal and team perspective. For Ford City High School’s Justin Retzer, he was able to do just that.

Retzer, a senior pitcher, will look back positively at his outing against rival Kittanning High School to end his Sabers career. Retzer ended his high school career allowing just one run and two hits over seven innings, while striking out 10. Retzer dominated on a personal level, but more importantly, the team earned a 7-1 victory. To really seal the memory the right way, Retzer was able to record his 10th strikeout on the last pitch of the game.

Retzer, who won only two games despite having an ERA under 2.00, was Ford City’s No. 1 pitcher all season and one of four seniors on the team. Retzer showed his dominance in Ford City’s Section 3-AA opener this city as he struck out an amazing 16 batters.

Retzer is not only the star on the baseball team, but he held his own on the Sabers’ football team as well. Retzer showed off his skill as he hauled in 26 passes for a team high 374 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Retzer’s best performance came against Burrell High School as he hauled in 10 passes for 100 yards in a 17-10 loss.

Despite his success at football, Retzer will be taking his baseball career to the next level as West Liberty University in the fall.
