Merle C. Guthrie, Sr., 82, of Ford City, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born December 30, 1929 in Manor Twp, son of Tomer H. and Grace L. (Klingensmith) Guthrie. .
Merle was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ford City. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the US Army. He retired from PPG Industries of Ford City and then worked at Pullman Standard of Butler.
He was a member of the VFW of Ford City and the American Legion. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, farming, restoring antiques, listening to country music and partying with friends and family.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Louise (McCollim) Guthrie of Ford City; three
daughters: Linda L Guthrie of Ford City, Kathy (Jim) Rearick of Ford City and
Patricia A. (Lesley) Fiscus of Ford City; son, Merle C. Guthrie, Jr. of Ford
City; five sisters: Moss (Wesley) Flick of Ford City, Mary (Stanley) Henry of Penn Hills, Grace (Wesley) Taylor of Kittanning, Janet George of Ford City and Nancy (William) Crissman of Vandergrift; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Guthrie of Verona; eight grandchildren: Joshua (Angela) Rearick, Timothy (Michele) Rearick, David (Christen) Rearick, Seth (Nicole) Rearick, Jennifer (Jeremy) Vensel, Caren Fiscus, Lesley (Jessica) Fiscus and Michael (Beth) Fiscus; and 12 great grandchildren: Zachary Dillingham, Chelsey Fiscus, Breanna Fiscus, Jaisa Vensel, Joey Vensel, Kassidy Fiscus, Autumn Fiscus, Levi Rearick, Cache Rearick, Nathan Rearick, Caylee Rearick and Alexia Rearick.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Wesley, Tomer, Hugh and James Guthrie; and two sisters: Alma Odrechowski and Dorothy Frazier.
Friends will be received at the at the Welch Funeral Home in Ford City from 2-4 and 7-9PM Friday, May 25, 2012 and on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 10AM until 11AM funeral services at the First Baptist Church in Ford City officiated by the Reverend James Vincent.
Interment will follow in the Ford City Cemetery.
