BUFFONE: Mascot and Colors Feedback

by John Buffone

As a sports uniform enthusiast, the recent article in The Kittanning Paper about the new high school’s mascot and colors really sparked my interest. I took to social media and the airwaves to ask readers/listeners what they thought a good mascot and color scheme would be. Although most of us will have no impact of the final decision, people got very creative with their ideas. Here are some of the more interesting suggestions that were sent to me.

The Foxes: Brown and Gold. The Fox definitely gets away from the cat themed mascots that have ruled the county for the past few decades and the Brown/Gold scheme would fall within some of the color limitations set for the new school.

The Minutemen: Camouflage. This is one of the more interesting ones I heard. No one school that I know of uses the camo scheme as their color set. Even if the school were required to have a white jersey, snow camo would be available. As far as the minutemen, I enjoy any mascot that is unique and leaves the traditional animal realm.

The Rattlers: Yellow and Black. The Rattler is an untapped mascot in this area and has the potential to sport a fierce looking logo. Furthermore, black and yellow are actually the colors of timber rattlesnakes in Pennsylvania. Not to mention, those colors are generally well received by everyone in the area.

The Miners: Orange and White. The Miners mascot would be a solid connection to the region’s rich coal mining history while the orange and white color scheme would surely stand out at most events.
