01/10/1970 – Frick Slayer Denied Appeal From Life Term – The State Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of a man sentenced to life imprisonment in the abduction slaying of a Virginia Military Academy cadet in 1968. Gary Lee Batley and three others were convicted in the slaying of Kenneth Frick, 21, of Ford City, an honor student and star athlete at VMI.

01/10/1950 – A Kittanning motorist rammed a utility pole yesterday after his car ran over a sack of feed that fell off a truck on Route 422 one-half mile east of Worthington. Elmer Cornman, 23, of Kittanning RD 3 was the driver. The car had about $800 damage.
01/10/1945 – The Kittanning Choral Society will resume its weekly rehearsal periods at 8:15 p.m. Monday in First Methodist Church here. Directed by Lyman Almy Perkins of Pittsburgh, the choral group will begin work on Mendelssohn’s oratorio, “St. Paul,” to be sung for a Spring concert.
01/10/1940 – One hundred Knights of Phythias members of lodges in Armstrong county, guests of Yatesboro lodge, feasted on a buckwheat and sausage supper in Yatesboro Presbyterian Church.
01/10/1935 – Much indignation has been aroused by announcement of the Evans Bus Company that after Saturday night it will not operate between Freeport and Kittanning. Under the new schedule only school children will be carried north as far as Slate Lick. No passengers will be picked up along the highway.
01/10/1935 – Bids will be opened this week for construction by Dr. Joseph Milliron of Applewold on a finely located lot on Allegheny Ave., Applewold, of a handsome home. Plans call for the building of one of the most modern and attractive homes in the town.
01/10/1930 – Harry C. Golden, well-known member of Armstrong County bar, was tendered a pleasant surprise by a small company of friends at Painter’s Café when he walked in Thursday evening to join the group of men who are accustomed to spend an hour or two together socially every night. The occasion was Mr. Golden’s birthday and in honor of the event one large candle graced the center of the table.
