12/23/1969 - Yule Money Stolen From 92-year-old.
12/23/1969 – Derailment on Pittsburg & Shawmut Railroad line yesterday 2-1/2 miles north of Kittanning put five cars off track at about 9AM. No one was injured and liquid oxygen tanks inside derailed cars were not damaged. Railroad spokesman said a broken rail caused the wreck just south of Tarrtown.
12/23/1969 - The Michael LaFisca residence in Worthington was awarded first place last night in the Christmas home lighting contest sponsored by the Worthington-West Franklin Fire Company.
12/23/1969 - A neighborhood party for youngsters in the redevelopment project area surrounding Armstrong County Memorial Hospital was held for the first and last time last night. By next Christmas, the neighborhood will have vanished and (been) replaced with a new neighborhood of public housing for low income and the elderly, and neighbors will have moved to different areas of town.
12/23/1969 – Ted Miller and Son, Cowansville RD1, was honored for the highest dairy production in the 31 years of Armstrong County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. His herd had a yearly herd production average of 16,326 pounds of milk and 638 pounds of butterfat per cow. Special recognition for production of over 500 pounds of butterfat per cow went to: O.J. Claypoole and Son, Jack Wilson and Ray Claypoole and Sons, all of Worthington RD2; Floyd Schrecengost, Dayton RD3; Ward and Stuart Claypool and Roy Bowser Dairy, both of Worthington RD1; James Kammerdiener and Son, Templeton RD1; and Dean W. Aden and Frank Schrecengost, both of Dayton RD2.
12/23/1969 – Gary Slavka, a Ford City High School junior, won a door decorating contest for the schools’s Future Business Leaders of America contest. His entry, “Frosty the Snowman,” was m ade of white tissue and construction paper.
12/23/1964 - Kittanning High’s embattled basketeers gave coach Jack Bestwick a fine, early Christmas present last night, a 43-40 exhibition victory over Indiana here. Indiana had the lead six times before Bestwick’s Wildcats pulled ahead to stay, 38-37 with 2:2 left in the game.
12/23/1959 - Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Fiscus, 739 Greenlawn Road, Ford City will observe their 58th wedding anniversary tomorrow. No special plans have been made by the couple.

12/23/1949 - An elderly Kittanning woman, Mrs. Emma Tisobendorf, was severely burned when her clothing caught fire in her bedroom at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. Barnhart of 609 N. McKean St.

12/23/1939 - Tragedy in the form of the sudden death of one of the immediate family members has erased plans for a happy Christmas. Returning by automobile to his home in Elderton from Conneaut, where he was employed, Thomas Martin McMaster, 74, suffered a stroke near Butler which resulted in his death a few minutes after being admitted to Butler County Memorial Hospital.
12/23/1939 - A new Christmas diversion has been devised by Kittanning residents. Scores of motorists are spending their evenings driving about the Kittanning-Ford City area to see Christmas decorations placed at many homes.
12/23/1929 - An intramural league similar to that of last year will be organized in Kittanning High School again, according to athletic office reports. The league has been a feature of local sports for many years, and this year’s race is expected to be an interesting one. The league is divided into two parts as both girls and boys participate.
