09/25/1969 – Burglars last night ransacked the home of Dr. Joseph Kunkle, Kittanning RD7, Country Club Estates, and removed an undetermined amount of money and two watches. Entry was made by breaking in a door.

09/25/1969 – Mr. & Mrs. William Baillie of 1238-6th Avenue, Ford City, observed their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception at the American Greek Catholic Club, Ford City. The couple were married September 20, 1919 at Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. Baillie is a retired employe of the Eljer Company, Ford City. They are the parents of seven children: Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Brocious of Mentor, Ohio; Mrs. Ralph (Esther) Toy of Galion, Ohio; Paul Baillie, Mrs. Joseph (Marion) Kasan, (undistinguishable name) Baillie; William Baillie, Jr.; and Mrs. John (Barbara) Goy(undistingushable), all of Ford City. A son, John, was killed during World War II. About 100 persons attended the reception.

09/25/1969 - A registered Hereford heifer was won by Doris Dranko, Ford City, whose name was picked from the membership list of the Pennsylvania Junior Hereford Association, allowing her to win the prize at a Hereford Field Day at Buffalo Creek Farm near Freeport.

09/25/1969 - A training course was announced for retail clerks. It will be presented by Kittanning Rotary Club starting in October.

09/25/1964 - Highly touted at the University of Louisville for all-American honors this year is Doug Buffone of Yatesboro. Doug is a senior this year, weighs 221 pounds, is 6-2 and will play both offense and defense for the Cardinals.

09/25/1964 - Miss Barbara Hogan daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Hogan of 530 Hawthorne Ave., Kittanning, is president of the Student Government at St. John’s General Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She is a 1962 graduate of Kittanning Senior High School.

09/25/1959 - Distillery Workers End Long Strike - Some 700 members of Distillery Workers Local 266 accepted the latest contract proposal of Joseph H. Finch Co. at a special union meeting as the longest strike in local company history drew toward a close.

09/25/1959 - Charles Hopper was named president of the newly organized Ford Memorial Chapter of Methodist Men of Ford Memorial Methodist Church here.

09/25/1954 - Mr. and Mrs. Samuel E. Cornman, Goheenville farm residents, are to mark their 65th wedding anniversary. A special evening service in Pine Creek Baptist Church will honor the couple’s anniversary. Joining in the service will be the congregation of Goheenville Presbyterian Church. The Cornmans divide their membership between the two churches.

09/25/1954 - A spokesman for Armstrong County Cerebral Palsy Chapter said that contributions during last week’s fund drive now total over $5,000. Money is still arriving by mail.

09/25/1954 - Goldie Belle Miller, long-time Kittanning seamstress, died unexpectedly in her apartment at 134 1/2 Market St., an apparent heart attack victim.

09/25/1944 - Pvt. H. Wayne Rosenberger was killed in action in France on Sept. 3, the War Department has informed his family. The 20-year-old youth was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rosenberger of East Kittanning.

09/25/1944 - A second case of infantile paralysis has developed in Kiskiminetas Township. Neal Gourley, ten-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gourley, became ill.

09/25/1944 - The Rev. Charles Reynolds preached his farewell sermon in the Elderton and Shelocta United Presbyterian Churches.

09/25/1939 - Thieves who broke a plate glass pane in a side floor to gain entrance stole a cigarette machine from Cramer’s Diary Store of Silverville, three miles from Freeport on the Butler Road.

09/25/1939 - Miss Rebecca Jamison, 308 North Second St., Apollo, was elected president of the class of 1943 at Wilson College, Chambersburg.

09/25/1934 - Painters and carpenters rushed work on the remodeling of Gruskin’s Department Store, Market St.

09/25/1929 - Erwin M. Bowser, 73, died at his home on North Grant Ave. Frank Meixelberger, 55, died at his home on Sixth Ave., Ford City.

09/25/1929 - Bids will be opened Oct. 10 for construction of a new road between Kittanning and Ford City.
