Stangs Fall in Semi-Final Tournament Play

W/K Stangs fall 13-1 to Youngstown-Creekside in semi-final tournament play this weekend, bringing their 2019 season to a close.

After a mid-week 16-3 finish in North Quad County league play, the W/K Stangs traveled to Struthers, OH, for three days of zone play. In Thursday night action, Youngstown-Creekside took an early lead, defeating the Stangs 10-0. The Stangs rallied back on Friday with what was described as a 12-2 “blow out” win against Manchester, NH and a 7-6 victory over Hagerstown, MD, to qualify the Stangs for Saturday’s semi-finals.

Youngstown-Creekside took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when W/K Stangs pitcher, Jacob Allen gave up a single, a walk and a pitch striking a batter. With bases loaded and 2 outs, Youngstown’s Hansen tripled allowing 3 of his teammates to cross home plate. Hansen was left on base when W/K Stangs’ Allen struck out the next up Youngstown batter.

The W/K Stangs answered back in the top of the second inning with Noah Cyphert and Nick Parisi both getting on base, followed by Garrett Kelley’s RBI single alllowing Noah Cyphert to score, which would end up being the sole run for the Stangs as they fell, 13-1, to Youngstown-Creekside, bringing their 2019 season to a close. Staying true to their “gitter done” motto, the W/K Stangs proudly finished the 2019 with an 18-5 record overall.
