07/29/1969 – The newly reorganized Kittanning Area Firemen’s Band took first place at the Clearfield firemen’s parade last night in its first competitive appearance. The event marked the 20th anniversary of the first appearance, also at Clearfield, of the original Kittanning Firemen’s Band. That marching unit compiled a record number of first prizes in the area before it disbanded two years ago. The seven-company department sponsoring the new band includes: the three Kittanning companies, Rayburn Township, Applewold, West Kittanning, and East Franklin Township. Elderton High School band also scored in last night’s competition, taking first place in the junior band division.
07/29/1969 – No one was injured in a collision between two trucks on Route 268 today. A 1953 model truck operated by George Roush, 35, of Worthington RD1 attempted a left turn off the highway and collided with a 1968 model truck driven b y Melvin Stuchell, 46, of Cowansville.
