11/27/1967 – Over 4,000 hunters fought biting cold winds in Armstrong County today to open the 1967 deer season. Game Protector Robert Muir said he was called out Sunday morning to investigate a wounded deer in a field near Route 268 and Furnace Run Road. When he arrived, there was a crowd of people looking at two large buck and a smaller buck some 100 yards away. “The deer would stare at the crowd of some 15 people for a few moments, then go back into the woods. They did this several times and were easily within rifle range, but didn’t appear afraid of being shot,” Muir said.

11/27/1968 – Checks have been mailed to Armstrong municipalities and institutions toward the cost of maintaining and operating sewage treatment facilities. Those receiving checks will be: Dayton Joint Elementary School Authority $1,478.88 on a total amount of $73,943.96; Armstrong School District $770.78 on a total amount of $38,539.11 for Bethel Elementary School; Armstrong School District $1,491.87 on a total amount of $70,993.87 for Shannock Valley Elementary; Redbank Valley School District $769.30 on a total amount of $38,4675.28 for Redbank Valley Elementary School and $889.87 on a total amount of $44,493.73 for Hawthorn Elementary; Armstrong County Commissioners $1,178.37 on a total amount of $58,918.72 for Armsdale Home; Ford City Municipal Sewage Disposal Authority $8,821.68 on a total amount of $441,084.17; Freeport Borough Municipal Sewage Disposal Authority $5,418.49 on a total amount of $270,924.28; Kittanning Borough $7,503.09 on a total amount of #375,154.75; and Parker City Sewage Authority ­­$2,750.48 on a total amount of $137,524.20.

11/27/1968 – Firemen battled a blazing fire at the home of James Miller on Orr Avenue in Ford Cliff last night. It destroyed the residence. The cause of the fire was said to be defective wiring. Miller was at work at the time of the blaze.

11/27/1963 - The annual union Thanksgiving service for the Kittanning area will be held at 9AM tomorrow at the West Kittanning First Brethren Church.

11/27/1963 - Basketball coach John Rimmey may stuff himself full of turkey tomorrow, but his Wildcats will take it easy and eat milk and crackers. Kittanning pries the lid off its 1963-1964 cage season here Friday night in an exhibition contest with Shannock Valley, and it behooves the Wildcats to be in top shape if they hope to feast on the Spartans.

11/27/1953 - Ford City- 26 new members enrolled with Ford City Public Library during November, raising the total membership to 2462 according to a report of Mrs. Maude Armstrong, librarian.

11/271953 - The season’s first basketball game will take place in Ford City HS gymnasium when Westminster College clashed with the Kittanning Lions Club quintet. Westminster has 2 district boys, Tom Schrecengost of Ford City and Tony Stillson of Kittanning, in its lineup.

11/27/1948 - As he traveled 11321 miles by hitchhiking on a 6 month trip, John Lindeman saw many historical and scenic places of the west. He augmented his travels and finances by working at 5 places in 3 states during the 6 month period and came home 11-cents richer than when he started.

11/27/1948 - The offering received at a union Thanksgiving Day church service here amounted to $56.29. The money was given to Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital.

11/27/1943 - Mrs. Viola Norton of 1355 Orr Ave. received a War Dept. telegram advising that a son, S-Sgt. James W. Norton is missing in the battle over Germany since 13 November.

11/27/1943 - Ford City- Celebration of final payment on a debt incurred 12 years ago will take place Sunday with a “mortgage burning” at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church.

11/27/1933 - The 2nd severe cold spell of winter moved into Armstrong Co. Sunday afternoon in the wake of a heavy fall of rain.

11/27/1933 - Refusing stubbornly to wilt under the weight advantages of a strong invading Leechburg HS 11, Ford City HS gridders smashed and pressed their way to a 12-6 victory Saturday afternoon, climaxing their 1933 campaign by riding on to their 4th consecutive Armstrong Co. championship and their 16th straight triumph over a county opponent.

11/27/1928 - Congressman N.L. Strong has recommended to the Post Office Department that Mrs. H.B. Henderson be appointed acting postmaster until one has been appointed.

11/27/1928 - Philip M. Graff, 72, Armstrong County native one and a son of the late Peter M. Graff of Worthington, died this afternoon in Duluth, Minnesota.
