Vendors Benefit During Court House Bazaar

Volunteers Allyssa Burk, Sara Burk, and Daniel Geidel sold food and other items last Friday. Proceeds went to Orphans of the Storm animal shelter.

Vendors representing many home businesses and local organizations bought tables in a bazaar held at the Annex Building of the Armstrong County Court House.

Vendors rented table space with money going into a fund for the County Employee and Retiree Christmas Party, according to Armstrong County Treasurer Amanda Hiles.

“We can’t use tax dollars for a Christmas party, so it is run directly on donations and fundraising.”

Hiles said there wasn’t any specific amount of money that had to be raised.
“We just work with whatever we get.”

Hiles said that employees also pay for the meal out of their own pocket.
“Our fundraising helps to pay for the DJ, hall rental, and other expenses.”

This year’s event will be held at the West Kittanning Fire Hall on December 8. She said they average 150-200 people in attendance.

Vendors included AVON, Watkins, and volunteers raising money for Orphans of the Storm.

Hiles said the vendors just pay for table space and get to keep money from whatever sales or fundraising they do.

Allyssa Burk set up a table to sell food and trinkets for the animal shelter.

“The money we raise will go toward the Hope Fund for the Orphans of the Storm,” Burk said. “We had teeshirts, mugs, and food for sale.”
Burk said the food was the big seller.

“We had a whole roaster of cabbage and noodles and it was gone by end of lunch.”

The Hope Fund assists animals that need surgery or other special medical assistance.
