Seniors Enjoy the Melodies of a Tarentum Vocalist

At 41 years old, Scott Fennell is beginning to delight audiences with musical engagements in Armstrong, Butler, Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.

A Tarentum man was in town Friday morning for his singing debut at the Kittanning Senior Center on Queen Street.

Scott Fennell, 41, said he began singing with family members when he was just a lad.

“I have been singing my entire life. I started singing with my brother and my grandmother at the church when we were kids. We would go around the community and sing. As we progressed, I got involved with the choirs in middle school and high school and went to regional and state choir when I was in high school. I was involved with musicals.”

“Singing has always been a passion of mine. I couple of years ago, I quit singing. But I missed it, so I started singing again. I have wanted to perform, but I have a wife and two young children, so it’s a busy life.”

Fennell attends Center United Methodist Church in Fawn Township and is a part of its praise band. He said he is attempting to book more dates outside of the Sunday services as well.

“I just started putting some feelers out there, continue singing at the church, and am trying to find opportunities out there to sing.”

Fennell has sung for some charity events at Highland High School with the Murphy’s Big Band. Since he can’t bring a big band with him everywhere, he utilizes sound tracks with his own PA system.

His presentation at the Kittanning Senior Center centered around many big band tunes. Fennell said singing for the senior centers has been a rewarding experience for him.

“You are catching me right at the birth of my program. I have done it four times now, and every time I do, I add more songs and explain the history behind the song.”

Look for him at an event near you. He will sing his way into your heart.
