Sugarcreek Township residents are next in line for “city water” because of a million dollar grant from the State.
The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin announced more than $3.8 million in Community Block Grant Development (CDBG) funding to provide clean water, streetscape improvements, and improve sewage systems in communities in Armstrong, Susquehanna, McKean, Elk, Fulton, and Lycoming counties.
“The Wolf Administration is committed to supporting small communities all across the commonwealth, especially those low-income areas that often have needs related to clean water access, sewer systems, and blight,” Secretary Davin said. “These community development block grants will help fund crucial infrastructure and streetscape projects that will make these communities better places to live.”
The most recent block of CDBG funding approvals included $1,000,000 to be used in Sugarcreek Township for a water line extension project to provide clean water to residents with private wells, cisterns, or springs contaminated with unsafe levels of coliform, E. Coli, barium, and arsenic.
DCED Media Contact Michael Gerber said the funds will go to Armstrong County to be dispersed to Sugarcreek Township.
No timetable was available for a construction schedule. Gerber said the Kittanning Suburban Joint Water Authority will be servicing the line once it is constructed.
Calls to the office of Armstrong County Planning and Development for additional details of the project were not returned.
