10/24/1967 – The first step toward the formation of a parking authority was taken last night during a special meeting of the Kittanning Council. Chaired by Gerald Shuster, the members are Daniel Yapp and John Doverspike with council president John McIlwain as an ex-officio member.

10/24/1967 – Two area police lieutenants are enrolled at IUP for continuing education. Charles Montgomery has been with Kittanning Police since 1940. Stanley Sadeski is an 11-year veteran of the Ford City Police Department.
10/24/1967 – New Kensington-based Central Office Products held a grand opening of their West Kittanning store. John Kruk is manager, and Ailean Wolfe is assistant manager. Attending the grand opening was Charles D. Rupp of the Area Chamber of Commerce and owners J.S. and Ralph De Simon. This is the company’s first branch store.
10/24/1963 - Harrisburg- 35 agricultural experts, including Armstrong Co. agent William R. King of Kittanning today were named to the staff of the PA Livestock Exposition scheduled for 11-15 November in the State Farm Show Building.
10/24/1958 - Members of St. John’s Lutheran Church were introduced to the new Service Book and Hymnal that will take the place of the Common Service Book in use in United Lutheran Churches in America since 1918 during the Sunday morning service.

10/24/1957 – Loblaws are increasing the floor space of their supermarket at the Edgewood intersection of Routes 422 and 66, south of Kittanning. Work is expected to be completed next month.
10/24/1967 – A familiar landmark to many is stepping aside as progress sweeps it into its only remaining hiding place – the memories of those who knew it. The popular, 38-year-old Armstrong County Fairgrounds will be no more. On the site of the former jubilee grounds will rise a 70-unit housing development planned by two Kittanning business men.
10/24/1953 - Two members of the Bricklayers Union were presented with 50 year gold certificates as a dinner in their honor was held at Kit-Han-Ne. The honored men were O.E. Seffert and A.R. Rhodes.
10/24/1953 - Kittanning High School football quarterback Bob Brodhead was on crutches as a result of a severe ankle sprain suffered last night. The injury is expected to sideline Brodhead for next week’s tilt with Tarentum.
10/24/1953 - Cpl. Kenneth R. Crates, 27, a Kittanning RD 2 career soldier and one of the last area casualties of the Korean War, has been awarded the Silver Star, the nation’s 3rd highest military award, for gallantry in action which sent him to a hospital in Japan for 75 days.
10/24/1938 - The Rev. Fr. Giles, a Capuchin one from Herman, PA, celebrated Mass in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in the absence of Fr. C. F. Sullivan, who became sick and fainted during the celebration of first mass. Fr. Sullivan’s illness of pneumonia remained unchanged this morning.
10/24/1938 - Vandalism executed on a wholesale scale sometime over the weekend caused “considerable” damage to machinery at the Peter Graff Woolen Mills, Worthington, and will bring heavy losses in schedule, delay, and lack of employment.
10/24/1938 - Benjamin L. Arnold of 317 N McKean St. is remodeling a house on N Water St. that was erected in 1887. The home is being completely modernized with lighting and heating facilities, and brick veneering.
10/24/1933 - Hunting licenses issued in the county to date number approximately 2400. The total is higher than the ones issued by this time last year.
10/24/1933 - The Armstrong County Jail is occupied by fewer people at the present time than at any period since the assumption of office by Sheriff George W. Shaffer. There were 13 inmates in the county jail.
10/24/1928 - Hiram Van Dyke, 93, died at his home in South Buffalo Township on the farm where he was born and spent practically his entire life.
10/24/1928 - Ford City- The excursion on steamboat Julia Belle under auspices of Hose Company #1 proved a pleasant affair. Despite cold and threatening weather, there were 172 passengers aboard to enjoy music and dancing on the upper deck.
