Anthony Chiesa
After a 45-minute executive session, Kittanning Borough Council voted to hire Anthony Chiesa as the Codes Enforcement Officer.
Chiesa has been a municipal police officer for 29 years. He has served in Freeport, Leechburg, Gilpin, and is currently Chief of Police in South Buffalo Township, where he plans to retire shortly.
“I have established and implemented a successful landlord-tenant registration program,” Chiesa said in a written statement given to the Kittanning Paper about his current job in South Buffalo Township. “The program in 2017 had a compliant rate of approximately 90%. I have routinely assisted in the creation and implementation of numerous other township ordinances… including those prohibiting nuisances such as junk autos, high grass, dilapidated structures, garbage, etc.”
A motion was made by Chris Schiano and seconded by Joe Kiehlmeier for Chiesa’s hire. It was passed with Andy Peters and Mike Crawford voting no. Council President Kim Chiesa abstained from the vote since Anthony Chiesa is her husband.
Council also voted to approve Chiesa as a part-time police officer, giving him authority to carry out whatever legal process necessary to fulfill his duty for codes enforcement.
According to his contract, he will be paid $17.50 per hour and work 32 hours per week. He will also receive health insurance, but will pay approximately 20% of the premium. The contract is for six months.
