As part of Fire Prevention Week, students from Dayton Elementary spent the morning with firefighters from the Dayton District Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters spoke about fire safety, emergency plans, and were shown their emergency apparatus.
The purpose of Fire Prevention Week was to bring awareness to the risk of death and injuries and provide information to the public about how to adopt these safety guidelines. Fire departments across the country are participating by educating in schools.

Firefighter Evan Keener explains various pieces of equipment found on a fire truck to a group of students at Dayton Elementary last week.
Students in every classroom from kindergarten to sixth grade were educated on the importance of being safe and what do when calling 9-1-1 if there is an emergency. Firefighters echoed how important knowing your address and township or borough is; as well as changing smoke detectors and having emergency plans in place.
Many of the students had the opportunity to ask firefighters questions about what they do everyday and see the equipment they use.
