10/3/1968 – Kittanning Ministerial Association lined up this week behind the majority segment of Armstrong School Board directors in favor of a two-high school establishment for the sprawling district. The Rev. John Berges, KMA president and assistant pastor at Grace Presbyterian Church, said the endorsement was unanimous.
10/3/1968 – “The Notables,” a singing group comprised of six Ford City High School students, won regional honors in a talent contest sponsored by Sabbath School Association in Brookville. They sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” at First Baptist Church in Brookville. They will compete for state honors Oct. 26 at Williamsport during the PA Sunday School Convention. The group consists of Cheryl Robinson, Linda Swigart, Pam Gray, Shelley Thomaswick, Debbie Lawhorn, and Mary Alice Bryan. Each is 17 years old.
10/3/1968 – A career soldier from Kittanning with 16 years of service received the third highest medal given by the U. S. Army in ceremonies last week in Fort Benning, GA. SFC Robert G. Hidinger of North Grant Avenue received the Silver Star “for gallantry in action in the Republic of Vietnam on Feb. 2, 1968.” The citation indicated Sgt. Hidinger raced to a position along the outer perimeter during devastating enemy fire, and began sweeping enemy ranks with withering machine gun fire. Although wounded, he did not decrease his fire as he moved from position to position with his machine gun.
10/3/1968 – Lance Corporal Barry Barnhart of Slate Lick is reported in good condition after being wounded in action in Vietnam. The 19-year-old Marine, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Barnhart of Fenelton RD1, was wounded in the chest and abdomen by hostile rifle fire while on patrol. His wife, the former Joyce Wagner, said his condition has improved since the first notification.
10/3/1963 - Area Boy Scouts- unable to find enough old ladies to help across the street- will turn their attention this weekend to helping Kittanning meet its quota at the next visit of the Red Cross Bloodmobile.
10/3/1958 - Four retiring postal employees were honored at a dinner held in East Franklin Twp. firehall by fellow workers last night. They were Lawrence McCauley, Arno H. Thompson, Melvin Bowser, and Bert Brooks.
10/3/1958 - Ronald H. Jeffers, 11, Pattonville, died at Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital last night, 5 hours after being struck by a truck at the intersection of Graff Ave. and Route 68.
10/3/1953 - Raymond E. Crane, 72 year old pioneer plumbingware manufacturer, died suddenly today in Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital shortly after he was stricken with a heart attack in his Country Club estates home. Founder of Eljer Co., Mr. Crane retired as president of the firm last July.
10/3/1953 - Ford City- Newly purchased Girl Scout site to open tomorrow for public view. Girl Scout Council members will serve coffee and cookie ones tomorrow afternoon during open house at Camp Blaine, along Buffalo Creek.

10/3/1938 - Kittanning Electric Shop had a rosy outlook for 1939 spring business today. with the receipt recently of contracts for electrical wiring and installation at Crooked Creek and Tionesta Creek flood control dams.
10/3/1938 - The Pittsburgh District Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, held in Uniontown last week, closed Sunday evening after assignments of pastors. The following ones were returned to Armstrong Co. charges- G. Warren Smucker, Ford City; A.E. Ross, Elderton; C.L. Moore, Rural Valley; W.S. Trosh, Kittanning; and E.P. Harper, Apollo.
10/3/1933 - The first reunion of the Jack School was observed Saturday. About 350 former teachers, students, and friends of the school returned to renew acquaintances.
10/3/1933 - Efforts of the state highway patrol to put across a “safety month” with “Now Reduce Accidents” cards were apparently meeting with some success. No reports of accidents in the immediate vicinity were received. The patrol reported one of the quietest weekends of the summer, and local garage workers remained in their stalls during the Saturday and Sunday half-holiday.
