5/25/1968 - Members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kittanning will celebrate their pastor’s 25th ordination anniversary on May 26th at 11AM, followed by a dinner at the Masonic Temple. The celebration falls on the exact date when Dr. Robert H. Thurau was ordained 25 years ago (May 26, 1943) in First Lutheran Church, Pittsburgh.
5/25/1968 – A Kittanning driver, Lloyd Klingensmith, 31, of 1354 North Grant Avenue, is listed in critical condition in the Elk County General Hospital after a one-car accident on Route 120, three miles east of Ridgeway. State police said he was apparently driving at a high rate of speed when his convertible missed a curve, climbed an embankment, then overturned and burned. He is being treated for severe burns to his body and internal injuries. He resides with his mother, Mrs. Fonda Klingensmith.
5/25/1968 – One person was hospitalized and four others injured today in traffic accidents. Frank Buterbaugh, 18, of 423 N. Water Street, Kittanning, ran off a township road in the Buttermilk Falls area three miles north of Kittanning and plunged down an embankment into Pine Creek. A passenger, William Patton, of 117-1/2 Queen Street, was admitted to the hospital with facial lacerations. Another passenger, Bernadette Williams of Ford City was treated for cuts of the face. In another accident, a car operated by Patricia Crissman, 30 of Adrian RD1 was traveling north on Route 3024 a mile north of Kittanning when the vehicle left the roadway, ran over an embankment, and struck a tree. Crissman and a passenger, Hepel Watson, 38, suffered cuts and bruises.
5/25/1968 – Estimated costs of $222,914 for remodeling Pleasant View elementary school for use as an administration building of the Armstrong School District has been approved. It will provide office space for 49 persons. Pleasant View School was listed to be closed at the end of the current school year. The school is at the intersection of Pleasant View Drive and Route 66.
5/25/1968 – Mrs. Helen Smeltzer of Shelocta RD3 announced the engagement of her daughter, Deborah Ann, to Alan L. Blystone, son of Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Blystone of Kittanning RD1. Miss Smeltzer is a 1967 graduate of Elderton Joint High School and is employed at Brody’s Department Store, Indiana. Her fiancé graduated Elderton in 1965, and is a 1967 graduate of Penn State University, employed by PennDOT.
5/25/1963- The question of enlarging the Ford City Union School District will be decided in the November election according to divided action last night at the High School Building by the Ford City Union School District Board.
5/25/1963- Dr. James Greenbaum, cochairman of Armstrong County’s anti-polio drive, announced today that immunization centers will be set up at 11 public schools in the county.
5/25/1953- Milton R. Young denounced administration cuts in Air Force spending as a violation of the Republican party’s campaign pledge to give the nation “completely adequate air power”.
5/25/1953- A decision is expected on a proposed 3-district schools jointure when representatives of Vandergrift, East Vandergrift, and Parks Township (Armstrong County) schools meet to hear a revised budget prepared by school administrators of Westmoreland and Armstrong counties.

5/25/1948- A Kittanning unit of the Military Order of the Cootie, fun and philanthropy affiliate of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was installed. Bent Elbow is the newly chartered unit’s name.

5/25/1943- The liquidating trustees of the reorganized Rural Valley National Bank are making distribution of the 7th dividend to depositors. This dividend will raise to 85% the amount which depositors have received on their original claims.
5/25/1938- Regis McCartan of Yatesboro, 22 year old laborer in the Yatesboro mine of Helvetia Coal Mining Company, was in critical condition at Indiana Hospital, following a mine accident.
