Liam Alese got the first two goals of the game - both coming in the first half of play. The first goal was with 26:46 remaining in the first and the second came with just 6:07 left to play.
This year, the Wolves are looking to improve from their first playoff appearance and they feel this year that work will pay off.
“During a lot of our practices we had a focus on passing, because that’s something we didn’t do a lot of last year. A lot of our drills would focus on getting open to the ball, off the ball positioning, and making good crisp passes and I think we did that today,” senior John Rearick said.
This win was a definitely a key win, because this was a victory over a district opponent that made the playoffs last season.
“I think this was a great win for us and definitely a win we needed. Ligonier Valley is one of the better teams in District 6, they made the playoffs last year and I think it shows a lot about us that we can contend,” Owen Fleming said.
The 4-0 victory was even sweeter, because of the fact that the Wolves kept Ligonier Valley scoreless on the day - something Fleming says is a big plus moving on.
“I think we need to keep a clean sheet (shutout), because when we get into the playoffs and play against some of the better teams, we can’t afford any goals against us. If we do against those better teams then it’ll be harder for us to get goals,” Fleming said.
The Wolves are going to be back at home on Wedneday to take on Kiski at 4:00 PM.
